ASVAB- Juniors and Seniors interested in taking the ASVAB test on Thursday, October 29, from 8:00 to 11:15 in the PHS Library should stop by and sign the list on the counter in the counseling office. Although this test provides a military entrance score, it is also a great Career Exploration tool for students not planning on military service. This test can help any student match his/her interests, skill and values with possible career choices. Please sign the list by Monday, October 26.

Talent Show- 1st Annual PHS Fundraising Talent Show: All ages, all talents!! The talent show will be held on Saturday November 21st in the PHS gym at 6:00 p.m. Pick up an entry form in the High School office, and return the form and $5 to Mrs. E. Lewis in the Choir Room by Wednesday November 4th. There will be 5 categories, and 3 trophies/awards given for each category. Come and be a part of this fun night. If you have any questions ask Mrs. Lewis.

Project Graduation Announcements- There will be a scavenger hunt on October 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and you will start at the High School round building in the gym. Teams need to consist of at least 4 or 5 people. There's a fee of $10 a person. All the money goes to Project Graduation. If you have any questions contact Laura Wright at 573-854-2900.

First Quarter Perfect Attendance/Perfect Discipline- The first quarter perfect attendance/perfect discipline trip to the St. Peter's Recreational Complex will be November 6. Students who have perfect attendance or perfect discipline with at least 93% attendance for first quarter are eligible to go on the trip. Pick up a permission form in the office. We will leave school at 12:30 p.m. (after third lunch shift). The cost of admission is $5 plus $2 if you plan to ice skate. You will also need money to purchase food since we will not be returning until approximately 10:30 p.m. If you plan to swim, be sure to bring a bathing suit and towel. Also, available for your enjoyment is volleyball and basketball. The permission form must be signed and returned by November 4 if you plan to go on this trip.

Writer's Club- New Club: A planning meeting for a new writer's club will be held on Tuesday, October 27 at 3:05 pm in Ms. Jones' room. We will discuss potential activities and dues. Anyone who is interested but cannot meet at that time should see Ms. Jones.

Candy-grams Math Club will be selling Halloween candy-grams October 26-29. The candy-grams cost $1 each and can be ordered during all lunch shifts on those days. They will be delivered to 1st hour teachers on Friday, October 30.

Student Ambassador meeting- There will be a student ambassador meeting in Mrs. Cordia's room at 7:30am on October 28, 2009. This is a mandatory meeting.

Yearbooks- 2009-2010 Yearbooks will be ordered December 1st in student's English classes.

Volleyball Results The volleyball team lost to Central in two sets. We play tomorrow at DeSoto against Ste. Genevieve in the District Tournament.

Science Club News- Science club members should contact Mr. Reese or Katie Thurmond about the club tee shirts. Shirts are $10 each with the money due when you place your order. We need to finalize all orders by 10-30-09.

TLC- The Senior Citizen Walk-A-Thon will be this Saturday. We will meet at the center at 9:00 a.m. If you are unable to attend and you have collected money, please turn it in to Mrs. Lively or Ms. Paul by Friday. This is one of our scheduled activities and you are expected to attend if at all possible.

Red Ribbon activity for Thursday- The HELP Club invites all students and faculty to help cut out drugs at PHS on Thursday, October 22. For the small fee of 25 cents students may cut off a four inch square of Mr. Mapes' clothing. A table will be set up in the commons area and in the cafeteria during all three lunch shifts. All proceeds will go to the St. Judes Research Hospital.

Madison Smith competed in the State Golf Championship- Not only did she compete in the Missouri State Girls Golf Championship in Sedalia she finished in fifth place. There were 120 golfers-the best in the state. Madison was awarded a medal and also she earned All-State Honors as well. Way to go.

PEER Club- There will be a meeting on Tuesday, October 20, at 7:15 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. in room 52. Afternoon activity will include cleaning of school grounds. Orders for T-shirts will be available (money is payable as you place the order). Please be sure that bracelet money is turned in.

Project Graduation Announcements- There will be a scavenger hunt on October 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and you will start at the High School round building in the gym. Teams need to consist of at least 4 or 5 people. There's a fee of $10 a person. All the money goes to Project Graduation. If you have any questions contact Laura Wright at 573-854-2900.

First Quarter Perfect Attendance/Perfect Discipline- The first quarter perfect attendance/perfect discipline trip to the St. Peter's Recreational Complex will be November 6. Students who have perfect attendance or perfect discipline with at least 93% attendance for first quarter are eligible to go on the trip. Pick up a permission form in the office.

Bible Club- Attention Bible Club members! It's time to order our t-shirts. They will be $9. It cost one dollar more for each x over 1x in size and $3 to have your name on the sleeve. KFC Colonel's Scholarship- The KFC Colonel's Scholarship is now available for students who have a 2.75 G.P.A. or higher, enrolling in an in-state public college and who are pursuing a bachelor's degree. If interested their application is online at www.kfcscholars.org .

Red Ribbon Week- will be held this week. Monday will be Red Ribbon Day and Red Against Drugs. Tuesday will be Relax Without Drugs/Put Drugs to Sleep. Students should wear pajamas to show they can relax without drugs. Wednesday will be Tie-Up Drugs/Sock it to Drugs. Students should wear tie-died shirts and/or crazy socks. Thursday will be Cut Out Drugs at PHS. Monday students should wear red bracelets and red clothing to show they are against alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Bracelets can be picked up in Mrs. Nixon's room. or from HELP Club members on Monday.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. An A+ meeting will be held in the library from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Conferences will also be held on Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. An A+ parent meeting will be held in the library from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Advisors will have report cards for parents.

Lady Trojan Volleyball Results They finished their regular season with their final home match of the year against Farmington. The 9th grade, JV and Varsity teams all lost in three sets but played extremely well. The 9th grade ended the season 13-6-1. The JV team ended with a record of 17-5. Great job ladies. The varsity team will play Park Hills in the Conference Tournament.

Red Ribbon Week- The Potosi High School's HELP Club, whose motto is "Say NO to Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs," will participate in National Red Ribbon Week October 19 to October 23. We will be having a week of activities against the use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco. The Red Ribbon Campaign originated when Federal Agent Enrique Camerena was murdered by drug traffickers in 1985. The Red Ribbon became a symbol to reduce the demand for drugs just as the yellow ribbon symbolized the hostages in Iran and the green ribbon symbolized the murdered children of Atlanta.
