Mr. Letsinger

Mr. Letsinger graduated from Ava High School in 1981. He attended Drury University where he majored in Biology. He did two tours in the Peace Corps; first in Cameroon, Africa from 1987 to 1989 teaching at an Agriculture College. Then, he spent two years in Tonga, South Pacific from 1990 to 1992 teaching at a high school. In 1996 he taught English in South Korea at a privately run school. He has also worked for the state of Missouri in the Conservation Department and with the State Park Service. He worked at two outdoor education centers, one in Ohio the other in Massachusetts.  While working in Ohio he was paid to live in the woods and take kids on hikes and classes. In Massachusetts he was paid to live on the beach and take kids on hikes and classes.  He moved to Potosi in July and it is his first year teaching here.

Biology is a full year course in which a variety of instructional approaches will be used in order to provide students with opportunities for gaining factual knowledge and applying skills.  Students will develop the ability to connect biological concepts, build higher-level skills, and develop their own viewpoint of the world around them.  Content will focus on information and skills needed for the biology end-of-course exam.

This course is an applied science for those who plan to pursue careers as technicians or just wish to keep pace with the advances of modern technology.  It bends an understanding of the basics and principles of science with practice.  The seven major units offer the student an understanding in mechanical, fluid, electrical, and thermal systems.  The student will be able to follow directions, work mathematical formulas and pork in small groups.
