Mrs. Burke

Mrs. Burke taught 22 years before coming to Potosi in 2004.  Most of her years teaching were in Texarkana, Arkansas, at the same high school where she graduated. She also taught two years in Louisiana.  She received a Bachelor's degree from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, and a Master's degree from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana.  She has taught almost all math courses from 8th grade math to Calculus.  Mrs. Burke's husband, Don, is the pastor of Breton Creek Baptist Church in Potosi. Mrs. Burke enjoys living and teaching in Potosi.

Algebra II

Algebra II should help the student understand algebra as a study of the structure of the system of complex numbers, recognize techniques of Algebra, comprehend the function concept, perceive the role of deductive reasoning, and to appreciate the need of language for future study in advanced mathematics or a related field.

 

Trigonometry/College Algebra

Trigonometry will discover trigonometric functions, triangles and their angles, radian measure and circular functions and their graphs, trigonometric identities, inverse trigonometric functions and equations, applications of trigonometry and vectors, complex numbers, polar equations, exponential and logarithmic functions.  These concepts will enable each student to perform higher on the ACT/SAT for college placement.  

 

Calculus

Calculus is an advanced mathematics course that will cover limits and continuity, derivatives and applications, integration and applications, transcendental functions, techniques of integration, infinite series, and conic sections. This course will enable students to see real world applications of motions and rate of change.

ACT Prep

ACT Prep is a class for all college bound students seeking to improve their ACT scores and earn a College Prep Certificate.  Students learn test-taking strategies, review key concepts in the areas of English, Math, Reading, and Science, and explore scholarship opportunities.
